EcoPlanet Bamboo CA Celebrates Environmental Day
18/07/2012
EcoPlanet Bamboo Central America and the residents of La Fonseca, a local town near our Guadua bamboo plantations, celebrated La Fonseca Dia del Medio ambiente or Environmental Day of La Fonseca.
The event was marked by a special pageant where different institutions sponsored a participant to compete for queen of the pageant. The participants were judged on the environmental projects they undertook as well as their ability to convince the judges of the vast importance of their cause.
EcoPlanet Bamboo Central America was represented by 16 year old Nancy Vanessa who chose to showcase the important social and environmental impacts bamboo is having on her local community.
Nancy arrived at the event in a carriage made out of Guadua bamboo and she was wearing a beautiful outfit adorned with Guadua bamboo ascents. In her speech to the judges, she showed off the many uses of bamboo by displaying the bamboo products made by EcoPlanet Bamboo CA staff who were recently trained in bamboo artisan. The use of bamboo for artisan is a big accomplishment in the area, as not very long ago bamboo was perceived by locals to be of little use.
We are proud to share that Nancy was crowned ‘Queen of the Pageant’ and made the importance of bamboo and its many uses known to the local community.
