Literacy Classes at EcoPlanet Bamboo CA
29/06/2012
At EcoPlanet Bamboo Central America, we are fully committed to drive positive change in our communities.
We do this through socially responsible policies, sustainable business practices and training programs, which include skill development workshops, safety trainings as well as literacy classes.
In the communities surrounding our guadua bamboo plantations, the government invested very little in educational opportunities. As a result, the literacy rates in the area are up to 80% and the average population has a primary education equivalent to third grade.
To address illiteracy issues in our communities, EcoPlanet Bamboo CA developed a reading and writing program for our employees. Lead by a professor at La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua, Managua (UNAN – Managua), the literacy classes will empower our employees who were once denied educational opportunities because of their economic status.
EcoPlanet Bamboo Central America will continue to create training and development programs aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and livelihood improvements in this impoverished community. By investing in these programs, a positive, sustainable impact will be created that will not only benefit the community but also our company, the country and the planet.
